A Woman

She lived a servile life, poor and unclean, for a rich widower in the country. High in her room, third floor of the chalet, did she write letters to her family in the old country, spinning yarns of the good life, all the while sending home most of her weekly pay to feed her young brothers and sisters. She left herself enough to survive on milk and bread and get thin and pale, eventually did she grow prematurely old and frail and die from her holy kindness. And in Heaven she was given precedence and a seat beside God.
